National Cyber Security Awareness Month October 2021

Scamwatch Nigeria joins the rest of the world to raise awareness on Cyber Threats. During this year's Cybersecurity Month, promoting online security among citizens.

This year. Our awareness resources will comprise mostly of explainer videos, motion graphics and infographics rather than the usual text based materials. This is so because Cybersecurity topics when discussed, can become technical very quickly, and so visualization of the content will help breakdown technical terms and therefore enable everyone ranging from the least Tech savvy audience to the IT Expert understand the message being conveyed.

The resources have also been broken down in weekly content divided into the major topics as outlined below:

October 4 - 8 (Week 1): Be Cyber Smart #BeCyberSmart

Content focused on general cyber hygiene:

  1. Creating Strong Passwords
  2. Using Two Factor Authentication
  3. Data Backup
  4. Regular Software Updates
  5. Using a good security / antivirus Product

October 11 - 15 (Week 2): Fight the Phish!  #FightthePhish

Content focused on learning how to identify Phishing emails and text messages and how to report websites and emails used for phishing.

October 18 - 22 (Week 3): Explore. Experience. Share – (Cybersecurity Career Awareness Week)

Content focused on using the Knowledge of IT for positive purposes. To guard against Criminals trying to lure children and young people into using their knowledge for criminal Purposes such as designing phishing pages, etc.

October 25 - 29 (Week 4): Cybersecurity First

Week 4 is all about making security a priority. Content focused on training Staffs on the Cybersecurity practices to be followed.  A large percentage of cybersecurity breaches has been identified to be as a result of human error such as Email Misdelivery(sending confidential information to a wrong address), using weak passwords, etc.
